The Thornton Police Department is investigating a shooting that occurred just after 3 a.m. on June 13 in the 1800 block of East 97th Avenue.

Officers responded after multiple callers reported hearing gunshots in the area. As officers were arriving on scene, they observed a vehicle leaving at a high rate of speed. A short time later, a vehicle matching that description dropped off a 19-year-old male at a local hospital with a gunshot wound.

At the scene, officers located several shell casings in the driveway of a residence. Two vehicles parked in the driveway had sustained multiple bullet holes and visible damage.

The preliminary investigation indicates that residents observed several individuals attempting to break into vehicles. During the confrontation, shots were fired. Investigators believe the 19-year-old gunshot victim is connected to the incident, and his involvement remains under investigation.

A 36-year-old male and a 41-year-old male were arrested for aggravated assault and released pending further investigation.
