The Thornton Police Department has arrested 39-year-old Ismael Barajas Aguilar in connection with a shooting that occurred on Feb. 5.
The investigation began after an adult woman arrived at a local hospital with a gunshot wound around 1:30 p.m. that day. Further investigation determined the shooting had taken place inside an apartment near the 9700 block of Pearl Street.
Investigators later obtained an arrest warrant for Barajas Aguilar. On Feb. 11 around 4:40 p.m. the suspect waslocatednearWest 84thAvenue and HuronStreet.Officersattemptedto conduct a traffic stopas thesuspectapproachedGaleBoulevard.
The suspectfailed toyield, leading to a brief vehicle pursuit. Officers executed a successful precision immobilization technique (PIT) at the southbound I-25 on-ramp at Thornton Parkway. Barajas Aguilar thenattemptedto fleeon foot but wasquickly apprehended.Eastbound Thornton Parkway was temporarily closed following theincident.
The suspect was transported to Adams County jail, where he is being held on the following charges:
- Criminal Attempt – 2nd Degree Murder (F3)
- 2nd Degree Assault – Reckless (F4)
- Domestic Violence
- VehicularEluding(F4)
- Obstructing a Peace Officer
- Resisting Arrest
