Stabbing, Suspect in Custody

The Thornton Police Department is investigating a stabbing that occurred just after 3 p.m. on October 23 near the 9100 block of Monroe Street, outside Meadow Community School.

Officers responded after receiving reports that an adult male teacher had been stabbed. Upon arrival, officers quickly located and arrested the suspect, identified as 31-year-old Damien Brooks. The victim was transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, and there is no ongoing threat to the community.

Investigators are working to determine the circumstances leading up to the incident. At this time, it appears the attack was unprovoked, and there is no known relationship between the victim and the suspect.

Victim advocates responded to assist students and staff who witnessed the incident. Thornton Police are working closely with Mapleton Public Schools to ensure support is available to students, parents and staff in the days ahead.
