The Thornton Police Department is investigating a homicide that occurred shortly after 4:30 a.m. on Jan. 14 in the 9600 block of Huron Street.
Officers responded after a caller reported hearing gunshots and provided a description of a suspect vehicle. As officers arrived, they observed the vehicle leaving the area and initiated a pursuit. At the original scene, officers located a 35-year-old male who had been struck by gunfire. He was transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The suspect vehicle contained four occupants, including an adult male who was found deceased from gunshot wounds. His identity is being withheld pending positive identification by the Adams County Coroner’s Office and notification of next of kin. The remaining three occupants, including one who attempted to flee on foot, were taken into custody.
Preliminary investigation indicates the suspects attempted to force entry into a residence, resulting in a confrontation with the occupants during which shots were fired. No Thornton Police officers discharged their weapons during the incident.
