Thornton Police investigate fatal motorcycle crash
On June 27, Thornton Police Officers were dispatched to East 144th Avenue and Franklin Street on report of a serious injury crash involving a motorcycle and a truck. The motorcycle rider was transported to a local hospital with serious injuries, and died shortly after arriving. No one else involved in the crash was injured.
Preliminary investigation revealed that the 21-year-old male driver of the motorcycle was traveling westbound on East 144th Avenue approaching Washington Street at a high rate of speed while cutting in and out of traffic. It appeared the motorcyclist struck the back end of the truck causing the driver of the motorcycle to lose control and crash.
East 144th Avenue between Washington Street and Franklin Street was closed for the approximate three-hour investigation, and we thank the community for your patience during that time. Our hearts go out to everyone who was affected by this tragic incident.
